Ettin
You already know this sound. You met it cross-legged on the carpet, an inch away from the TV. As you traversed the overworld, plumbed the depths of countless dungeons, or left the machine on during an all-nighter, the tones were etched into your memory. Ettin puts that voice in your rack.
Inside the NES, the Ricoh RP2A03 (RP2A07 for PAL people) had two pulse channels, and they carried most of the melodies you still hum. Ettin gives you both in a single 12HP panel. An ettin is a perpetually cranky giant with two heads sharing one body. So, each head gets its own V/oct input, its own gate, and duty cycle. They share the envelope and the bitcrusher. They can sing in harmony, or argue across the stereo field.
Don't expect smooth, polite analog pulses. Each voice has the console's traditional four fixed duty cycles (12.5%, 25%, 50%, 75%) on two switches. Hollow, nasal, brash or square. Pick a character, or let Duty CV pick for you.
Behind the oscillators is a shared percussive envelope. Gate either head, and set decay from a single knob. Crush it on the way out, with a CV input for turning clean chip tones into gravel on demand.
Ettin does one thing: your first console, but patchable.
